Propex® Geotextiles Stabilize Railroads

Maintaining track geometry is critical for efficient railroad operation. Subgrade pumping into the overlying ballast can destroy the track support system, creating an uneven track bed, resulting in delayed trains, or even derailment.

Geotextiles perform multiple functions in railroad applications. Heavy nonwoven geotextiles such as Propex 4553, 4510, 4512 and 4516, prevent contamination of new ballast with underlying fine-grained soils and provide a mechanism for lateral water drainage.

High strength woven geotextiles such as Propex 2044 can also be used to reinforce railroad embankments over weak subgrade soils.
